Have you ever struggled with choosing outfits for your Family’s Photoshoot?  Check out some awesome styling tips below!

There is an old-fashioned idea floating around that everyone needs to wear matching clothing. This is NOT true! Coordinating is far better than matching & much more preferred. Choose cohesive colors, but don’t fall into the trap that you all need to be wearing the exact same blue shirt. Your photos will be far more interesting with some variation! If you’re overwhelmed with where to start, start with a print that you love & pull in some of the coordinating colors with other pieces.

I recommend having at least three colors in your palette. Adding in a couple of patterns looks nice too, as long as their complement one another! Add in a solid shirt for one person, maybe some pattern for another. Remember, the key is to coordinate, so the colors in your prints & patterns are your friend! You can easily keep your color scheme neutral & add in smaller amounts of color for variety.

∙ Set aside some time to plan outfit coordination

∙ Pick a color scheme

∙ Mix patterns & solids (be mindful of the type of pattern, if unsure, ask your photographer)

∙ Limit the amount of patterned clothing as well as any conflicting or loud patterns & avoid graphics tees (it can be too distracting)

∙ Consider the time of year & the location of your session (this session was documented this past Fall)

∙ Also include » personal/sentimental items (ex. their favorite toy or blanket), fun additional accessories (headbands/bows, necklaces, suspenders, bow ties, flowers, balloons), & a clean snack for the kiddos (such as Cheerios)

∙ Make sure to ask your photographer for any suggestions, if they have a styling guide to help you get started, or with help along the way (I offer separate styling suggestion guides for couples as well as families)
